Awesome autumn ideas for things to do Cambridge

With its beautiful green spaces, stunning countryside and an excellent choice of activities and attractions, Cambridge has a lot to offer throughout the year.

During September, October, and November, the town is even more beautiful with trees bursting into colour and the soft autumn sun bringing the architecture to life.

If you’re in the city this autumn, why not enjoy some of these fantastic seasonal activities?

Autumn punt on the River Cam

Punting on the river is a fantastic activity in all seasons. Giving you a chance to see the city from a different point of view, and enjoy the beautiful green spaces that line the riverbanks, a day out punting is a great way to enjoy the best of Cambridge.

During the autumn months, the river is even more spectacular as the trees put on colourful displays and the gentle evening sunshine lights up the waterway. Book a guided tour or hire a punt and explore the river in your own time.

Go for a bike ride

With its great choice of parks and beautiful countryside, Cambridge is the perfect place for an autumnal bike ride.

Cycle along the banks of the River Cam, head to one of the nearby country parks or, if you’re feeling energetic, plot a route that takes you through some of the villages that surround the city.

Many of these picturesque spots are on designated bike paths, so it should be easy to find a route that’s safe and easy to follow.

Pick up a pumpkin

What could be a better autumn activity than picking your pumpkin?

Whether you’re looking for a pumpkin to carve for Halloween or a pumpkin for dinner, you’re guaranteed to find some delicious fruits in Cambridge’s fields and farms.

There are several places around the city where you can pick your own pumpkins. Many of these farms also have a selection of family-friendly activities for you to enjoy.

Apple picking

Apples are also in plentiful supply at this time of year, so why not head for your nearest orchard and get collecting?

You can transform apples into everything from jam and chutney to fruit juice and cakes, so once you’ve finished collecting your harvest, get straight into the kitchen for a little culinary experimentation.

Cambridge Botanical gardens

The Cambridge Botanical Gardens is one of the most beautiful spots in the city.

As @CUBotanicGarden describes, “Since its foundation, the Garden has provided a beautiful place for everybody to enjoy and benefit from – a series of wonderful landscapes through which to discover the drama of plant diversity.”

Head to the gardens this autumn to see a fantastic display of colour. There is also an animal trail for kids and many other seasonal activities on offer.
