Christmas in Cambridge – what’s on

As @VisitCambs says, “Cambridge has a full calendar of events, festivals and attractions that make it ideal to visit all year round – a destination for all seasons.”

However, during November and December, things in the city really step up a notch as Cambridge goes all out to celebrate Christmas. Bright lights illuminate the streets, ice skaters take over the city’s parks and everyone in Cambridge gets well and truly into the festive spirit.

To help you make the most of this fantastic time of year, we’ve put together a list of the best events taking place in Cambridge this Christmas.

The North Pole Festival

If you want to get into the festive mood, there’s nowhere better to go than The North Pole Festival. The city’s very own winter wonderland, the event is on Parker’s Piece and kicks off on 16 November.

Head down to the festival to have a go at ice skating on the specially made rink or to enjoy a drink in the cosy Alpine Cabin Bar. The event will also feature traditional food and a selection of market stalls and festive entertainment.

Ely Cathedral Christmas Gift and Food Fair

Although not strictly located in Cambridge itself, this great event takes place within easy reach of the city centre. Now in its eighth-year, the Ely Cathedral Christmas Gift and Food Fair features over 120 stalls and a great choice of food and drink stands.

All of this is located in the stunning surrounds of Ely Cathedral, making it a great day out for lovers of shopping and history alike. This year the fair runs from 14 to 16 November.

Christmas concerts

If there’s one thing we all love, it’s a bit of Christmas music. This year, concerts will be taking place across Cambridge throughout December. On the 7th, Little St Mary’s Church is hosting a Bach to Baby Christmas Family Concert. A great opportunity to introduce your kids to classical music, the event kicks off at 11:30am.

On the 17th, St Catherine’s College is holding a Christmas Luminaria, and on the 15th, a special Music for Advent concert will take place at Trinity College Chapel.

Christmas Market

Held, appropriately enough, in the old Market Square, the Cambridge Christmas Market is the perfect place to shop for gifts, enjoy some festive drinks and get into the Christmas spirit.

Even if you’ve already done all your Christmas shopping, it’s well worth popping down to the event to see the square decked out in all its festive glory.

With so much going on in Cambridge during the festive period, November and December are the perfect months to get out and enjoy the city. If you’re moving to the area and want to be in your new home in time for Christmas, we can help. Explore our site or get in touch today to find out more.
