What’s happening in Cambridge in 2020?

As anyone living in Cambridge or the surrounding area will know, there are exciting things happening in the city throughout the year. From comedy and music to beer and boating, Cambridge’s calendar of events has something to suit everyone. To help get you in the mood for 2020, and chase away those winter blues, take a look at our pick of events taking place in the city in the next 12 months.

 

47th Cambridge Beer Festival

One of the most popular events in the Cambridge calendar, the city’s annual beer festival will kick off on the 18th May and run to 23rd. Held on Jesus Green, the event will feature over 200 real ales from more than 80 breweries along with a range of international beers and non-alcoholic beverages.

 

Big Weekend

Another must-see event, ‘The Big Weekend attracts record numbers of people to the city and features performances from show-stopping artists, delighting crowds throughout the weekend’, says @VisitCambs. The event kicks off with a spectacular fireworks display on the Friday night, so make sure you don’t miss it.

Cambridge Comedy Festival

Every year, the Cambridge Comedy Festival features performances from some of the country’s best comedians. The 2020 event will be no different, with over 30 shows planned for venues across the city.

 

Cambridge Folk Festival

This year the Cambridge Folk Festival will run from the 30th July to 2nd August. One of the longest-running folk festivals in the world, the event attracts thousands of people from across the country. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Cherry Hinton Hall Park, the festival is a must for all fans of folk.

 

Midsummer Fair

Taking place at the end of June, the Cambridge Midsummer Fair has been held on Midsummer Common for around 800 years. Featuring all the classic rides you’d associate with an action-packed funfair, the event makes a great day out for all the family.

 

Strawberry Fair 

This fantastic free event celebrates music, the performing arts and everything that makes Cambridge unique. Taking place on the 6th June, this year’s Strawberry Fair will feature a fantastic choice of activities and attractions, including a kids’ area, an arts area and a morphic resonance stage.

 

Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival

This year the Cambridge Dragon Boat Festival will be held on Saturday 12th September in Ditton Meadows, Fen Ditton. A fantastic family day out, the event sees over 40 colourful teams race along the waterway. As well as the boats, the festival features music, food and entertainment.

 

Cambridge Jazz Festival

A highlight of the city’s autumn calendar, the 2020 Cambridge Jazz Festival will take place from the 13th to 24th November. As well as performances from a number of well-known artists, festival-goers can enjoy a programme of talks, movies, workshops and other exciting events.
